CIPD Student Stories: Alexa Boutouili | CIPD Level 5 L&D Review

Alexa was given the opportunity by her employer to study the Level 5 Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development, as a Senior Learning and Development Specialist. Read her story below.

I am currently acting up as a Senior Learning and Deployment Specialist at EY and studying the Associate Level Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development Level 5.

When the opportunity arose within my company to pursue a CIPD qualification, I knew it was something I had always desired and so knew it was something I had to go for. I recognised the immense value of this qualification, as it would enhance my expertise in learning and development, which also further fuelled my determination to pursue it. The provider that EY decided to go with was ICS Learn.

I had no hesitations about opting for online learning, as it provides the much-needed flexibility to balance my responsibilities as a working mother of two young kids.

This format allows me to fit my studies conveniently around my work and family commitments. Additionally, having seven peers who are also studying online creates a supportive network, ensuring that despite the virtual setup, we can rely on each other for encouragement and assistance.

I have previously studied in university which were physical classes and this element of flexibility and being able to study online is a much better experience for me.

Currently, I am still in the process of studying the course, and I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying it.

The topics covered are genuinely interesting, and it feels great to be immersed in the world of learning again.

Taking this time to further expand my knowledge is personally rewarding, especially since I am accustomed to helping others with their own development daily. Now, I can do the same for myself.

One aspect that has made this learning experience even more fulfilling is the outstanding support from the tutor.

Whenever I've had questions or concerns, I've received prompt responses to my emails. Additionally, our tutor and our cohort hold monthly calls where we discuss any queries or challenges, we face with the current unit we are studying.

These calls have proven to be incredibly beneficial, providing valuable insights and solutions along the way.

Pursuing this qualification has provided me with a profound understanding of the learning and development domain. The opportunity to study while working has been instrumental in bridging the gap between theory and real-life scenarios. It has allowed me to compare and apply the concepts I've learned to practical situations in my workplace and to understand the part I play in my role daily.

Looking ahead, my intention is to leverage this qualification to enhance the contributions I make to my team. With my newfound knowledge and experience, I aim to bring added value to our projects and initiatives. Beyond that, I plan to advance to the next level, continuing my journey of growth and development in this field.
