A few years before enrolling on the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in 2021, I had completed my CIPD Level 5 Diploma with ICS Learn, which gave me a strong foundation in HR principles and practice.
That experience reignited my passion for professional development and planted the seed for further study. The Level 5 Diploma provided a solid grounding in operational HR, but as I progressed in my career, I found myself increasingly drawn to strategic work – influencing culture, shaping people strategy, and partnering with senior leaders.
At the time I began my Level 7 studies, I was working full time as an HR Manager. Balancing a demanding role with advanced postgraduate study was not easy, but I was motivated by the desire to continue growing, both personally and professionally.
My goal was to move into a senior leadership role, one where I could have a broader impact on organisational strategy. I knew that achieving the CIPD Level 7 qualification would give me the strategic insight, credibility, and confidence to do so.
My motivation stemmed from wanting to strengthen my understanding of strategic people management, organisational design, and leadership development.
Before enrolling, I often felt that while I had strong hands-on experience, I lacked the theoretical frameworks to effectively influence senior stakeholders.
Studying flexibly while working full time required discipline and structure. I devoted evenings and weekends to my studies and used a combination of goal-setting and time-blocking to stay on track.
I particularly appreciated the quality of the learning materials, the practical case studies, and the opportunity to interact with tutors and peers. Tutor support was excellent – always responsive, encouraging, and helpful feedback.
Completing the CIPD Level 7 Diploma has been transformative for me. It has strengthened my ability to design and lead people strategies, influence decision-making at executive level, and embed inclusive and sustainable practices across global teams.
This milestone reflected not only career advancement, but personal growth and confidence in my leadership capabilities.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned is that professional growth is an ongoing journey. The CIPD qualifications, from Level 5 through to Level 7, taught me the importance of reflection, curiosity, and resilience.
For anyone considering taking this path, I would say that it is a significant commitment, but one that pays off. The skills, insights, and self-awareness you gain are invaluable.
If I were to describe my experience in three words, they would be: transformative, empowering, and fulfilling.
