BCS Foundation Certificate in AI Course Details
There are no formal entry requirements for the BCS Foundation Certificate in Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, we do recommend that you have a good understanding of English to get the most out of this course.
If English isn’t your first language, you’ll have access to extra support during your exam, including 25% additional time and the option to use your own paper-based language dictionary.
Your BCS AI course is 100% online and covers six units in total:
- An Introduction to AI and Historical Development
- Ethical and Legal Considerations
- Enablers of Artificial Intelligence
- Finding and Using Data in Artificial Intelligence
- Using AI in Your Organisation
- Future Planning and Impact: Human Plus Machine

For the BCS Foundation Certificate in AI, you’ll be assessed through one online multiple-choice exam. The exam is one hour long, closed-book, and consists of 40 questions. You'll need a pass mark of 65% (26 out of 40).
You’ll sit your exam online using a proctoring service, which records your screen and environment to ensure the assessment is fair and secure. To take your proctored exam, you’ll need:
- A desktop computer or laptop (Chromebooks, tablets, and smartphones are not supported)
- A webcam and microphone (built-in or external)
- An internet speed of at least 2 Mbps

The Foundation Certificate in Artificial Intelligence covers everything in the Essentials course and takes things a step further.
